Empowering Communities Through Prevention Training
Teens Teach Prevention
Teens Teach is a collaboration project through Prevention Consultants of Missouri (PCM), Drug-Free Communities (DFC), and area school districts. They provide training, presentations, scripts, and outlines for high school students to teach substance use prevention to their peers in grades 6th-8th. Lessons include Vaping/THC +Wellness and Alcohol + Wellness.
Benefits of Teens Teach Prevention
- Students gain confidence in public speaking & teaching.
- Younger students are more likely to engage in peer-taught lessons and retain the information longer.
- Students have increased positive attitudes towards school, teachers, and self.
- Students practice teamwork & collaboration
- Presentations augment previous prevention education from evidence-based programs such as Too Good for Drugs.
What are the requirements?
Schools will select students, form teams, and send students to the training session. Selected students are expected to attend one of the initial training sessions. PCM and DFC provide the students with their presentations, scripts, and outlines. Students choose their 3-4-person team with their sponsor (typically a school counselor). These teams will set their own practice/meeting schedule. Teams are required to present to classrooms 4 times during the school year.
